The SR&ED tax incentive program
The SR&ED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) tax incentive program is supported by
both the Canada Revenue Agency and Revenu Québec, and its purpose is to encourage new research and
development within your company. The program is aimed at businesses in all sectors and represents a
major source of financial support through significant reimbursements of your investments. In most cases,
the reimbursements are made by cheque.

Good identification of your SR&ED projects
You may be doing research without even being aware of it. In fact, You could recover up to 82% of salaries
invested in SR&ED! ProGestion’s task consists of identifying your projects, precisely analyzing your claim
potential so that you will receive the maximum SR&ED tax credits to which you are entitled. While certain
criteria have been established for judging the eligibility of your projects, the success or profitability of these
projects have no bearing whatsoever on your eligibility.
Some false obstacles:
You have not paid taxes or your business is not profitable?
This has no impact on your claim. You have the same rights.
Your project doesn’t work or is incomplete?
This has no impact on your claim. You have the same rights.
Proper description and documentation of your SR&ED projects
The projects must be presented for the right reasons and the description of each project must be written
accurately, respecting each of the criteria set out by the regulations. Our job consists of presenting the
projects in a way that will maximize their eligibility, maximize all expenses, and of helping you to document
yourself well.
Don’t leave anything to chance
A badly presented file can result in a refusal by the Ministry, and undermine your chances during a second
presentation. By entrusting the work to ProGestion starting with your first claim, you will gain time and
credibility, and you will ensure an optimization of your claim.
Clearly identifying and calculating eligible expenses
in order to
maximize the claim to which you are entitled
It is important to know how to identify and calculate the eligible expenses without leaving out anything.
Not all expenses are necessarily eligible. For example, certain materials used in the context of your research
projects are eligible, while others are not. Only those that you have a right to claim should be claimed.
Revenu Canada reimburses certain expenses that Revenu Québec does not reimburse, and vice versa.
It is essential to claim expenses at the right government level in order to avoid losing the right to these
reimbursements for all time.
Good delineation of the reimbursement period and claiming the additional year,
should you be eligible
Depending on the fiscal year-end closing date of your business operations, it is possible that you may
be able to claim two years instead of one. Do not miss the chance if it presents itself!
Your companion in document management
Good internal documentation is essential for being able to justify the activities carried out in the
framework of your projects. ProGestion will help you establish good research and development
documentation practices (GDP-R&D).
